QuestionWe have a mature carrotwood tree that has been pruned several times with no problems. However, after this last pruning, the leaves are growing back pale and curled. Has the pruning caused this or could it be a disease? What do you recommend to save the tree?
AnswerPaul:
The pale color may be due to a fertilizer imbalance (too much or not enough) or other root related stress factors such as water or possible injury to the trunk/roots. Look for areas on the trunk for loose or damaged bark. The curling may be an insect. Consider carrying a few of these leaves to your local garden center or nursery where they can perhaps look at those leaves under magnification for tiny critters such as thrips or mites.
Hope this helps.
