Questionmy neighbor asked me about her oleander, the leaves are yellowing and dropping. I check for any of the usual little pest and saw nothing. But, there is new growth and it looked happy and healthy ( from what I could see) Is it normal for the plant to shed almost half of the leaves. Thank you muchly
AnswerHi Margie:
Leaf shed can sometimes be caused by numerous things. This time of year, maybe a rather sudden drop in night temperatures could have triggered this -if you don't see anything else abnormal. I am assuming the plant is well established in the landscape. If it were a new planting, often these plants get stressed until they get established. Sounds like whatever happened was temporary since there is new growth forming. Even though the blooms are great, don't forget these plants can be poisonous.
