QuestionMy daughter is a tree climber, and her favorite tree is the maple tree. She recently noticed the red "pimples" on the maple leaves and is now afraid to climb the tree because she is afraid there are little bugs in those reddish bumps. The information I found tells me that the bumps themselves are not dangerous to the tree health, but what affects, if any, will they have a person?
AnswerOlga:
There are many insect galls that can be out there. They are usually insignificant to the overall health of the tree. Rake fallen leaves and destroy during the winter since the insect may overwinter on these leaves. I am not aware of any human health concerns.
