Dwarf yaupon holly

Question
I live in North Texas and last summer we had an infestation of a caterpillar we call Asps on our dwarf yaupon holly's. She shrubs dropped all their leaves and appeared to be dead. Now that it's spring the inside of the shrubs are bear but there is new leaf foliage at the tips of each branch. My question is should I leave them alone or should I dig them up and plant new ones. I have no idea what to do.

Answer
Hi Julie, Sounds like the plant is healing itself and I would leave it alone to see if more leaves will be coming out down the stems.  If that is the only problem is the caterpillar it should be fine.  Sometimes after those critters eat the leaves the plant looks more beautiful.  I think it is called Mother Nature at work.  kathy
