Questioni purchased a beautiful small white phaelanopsis (spelling) plant a couple of weeks ago with lots of flowers and buds (three spikes). now i see that some of the end buds are turning yellow. why? i have seen this before on orchids, but have never questioned it. i have had orchids in the past but have never had this problem. hope that you can help me and many thanks in advance. thelma

Your description of the yellowing does not sound like an infectious disease. This may represent a nutritional imbalance or otherwise environmental stress. Suggest monitoring humidity levels where the plant is located now. An occasional misting of the roots may be useful to avoid any drought conditions that may contribute. Also, monitor the buds to see if there may be any insects on them. You can use a simple magnifying glass to take a look at the buds. You may also consider contacting a local garden center or nursery for their input.
