Question
Palm 1
I have 2 mature Fox tails that were planted about 6 months ago at my home in Palm Bay Florida. We have had a couple days where the temp dropped below freezing for an hour or two. before the freeze the leaves started dying and my Landscaper cut them all off without asking, and seems to be no help with the current condition of these trees. I have attached a Picture of the damage to the base of the leaves to see if it can be identified and what I can do about it to fix the issue. I also have a Silver Bismark that was planted a couple weeks after the Fox Tails and there is starting to be some discoloration in some of the leaves. Still another issue that the landscaper cannot identify. All Help is greatly appreciated, and thank you for your time. I wish I knew more about palms. Please email me and I will respond with the rest of the pictures, the forum will only allow one upload.
Thanks Again,
Tim Henning
AnswerTim:
This brown, elliptical area on the main stem looks like some type of physical damage/injury sustained from an abrasion. Something may have rubbed against the stem. I do not recognize an infectious disease from your photo. Consider contacting your local county Extension office and requesting a visit to access this issue. Every county has an Extension office. You can call a reputable garden center in your area for the contact information as well. It is most desirable to have someone actually visit these trees to tell what is actually going on.
