QuestionHello,
I have 12 Italian Cypress Tress lining my house and their insides are all brown and dying with a lot of needle build up. Some branches are drooping out and they do not look good. I have inherited these trees and they have never been cared for until now. I've tried shaking out the dead needles but they never seem to end! I live in Southern California.
Please if you could help me that would be fantastic!
AnswerJoel:
Many evergreens of this type normally shed their interior leaves as they mature. This is caused by shading from the outer perimeter of foliage. Look for any other things like bagworms (insects) that can defoliate the leaves/twigs. Easy to recognize- little bags (1-2" long brown bags) hanging from the branches. Google a photo of bagworms if you are not sure. These plant also prefer good drained soil, so be sure not to overwater them.
If you wish, you can send me a photo of a representative tree. Try to fill the picture frame with a portion of the width of the tree. Be sure to review your photo on your computer before sending- to be sure it is in focus.
Regards
Steve
