QuestionI have 2 Meyer Lemon trees that are quickly losing lots of their leaves, I beleive its because of the coldweather we had during a cold snap. I wasn't able to protect them but the trees where in a shed. Can I do anything to get them growng again or are they doomed?
Can I get a halide light to promote new leaf growth? In Seattle, we don't get alot of daylight during our winter time, coud that also be the reason for leaf drop??
I appreciate any help you can give.
AnswerHi christy, This time of year the citrus are waking up to new growth and could be putting out flowers, but in order for them to do so they must loose the inner leaves to make room for them. Then buds will appear then fruit then leaves. They could also loose leaves if they are not getting enough water. If the plant is pot bound it may need to be moved up to get more soil around it. It could also need more fertilizer. So, you may have all three of the above to correct the problem. Make sure your fertilizer is slow release so you do not hurt your plant. And last but not least if the weather got below freezing for an extended time that could also hurt it. If the stems are green then new leaves should appear soon, if all the above is taken into consideration too. kathy
