QuestionMy Boston fern is not doing well. The tips die and the process continues up the frond. This is happening to all the new growth on a recently transplanted fern. The fern was outside for a while after being transplanted, then I brought it in when the weather became too cold. It is not getting much direct light. I keep it moderately moist.
AnswerHazel:
The symptoms you describe may be related to the stress of being transplanted, too much or not enough water or maybe a bit too cold before bringing it in. I don't think this is an infectious disease. Be sure that the soil is not overly wet. I usually flood the pot after I transplant- letting the water drain out the drain hole in the bottom, then I leave it alone until the plant almost starts to wilt from being thirsty, then repeat. Avoid those little bits of water frequently. These plants like a good source of filtered to brighter sun like in a sunny window or door. Be sure it does not get hot or cool air drafts from your heat/AC system too.
The change in environment may have just a temporary effect- until it acclimates.
