Fungus (?) on Patio Clay Pots

Question
I have rose bushes planted in terra cotta pots on my patio.  All of the pots have the normal white discoloration that comes with time.  One of the pots has what looks like fungus growing along the top lip.  The "fungus" is a yellowish white, is raised about 1/8" to 1/4" above the edge, looks similar to dried coral and actually eating away the edge of the pot!  Can you tell me what it is and how to get rid of it?  Is it infectious? Thanks!

Answer
Elizabeth:
I doubt if this fungus is causing a problem to the rose. 9.0 times out of 9.5 times, it is cosmopolitan. You may try wiping the lip with a 10% bleach solution or replacing the pot and try to keep it drier.  Moisture is often essential for these things to grow and flourish.  Just cosmetic.
