QuestionI have a beautiful lemon tree (don't know if it's the valley or meyers, but it has a thicker skin, we also have the thinner skin lemon tree kinda like an orange, what are the names?), that gave us tons of lemons, the problem is that they have big black/brown spots on them. We are still consuming them being that only the skin is affected, not the inside. They have an automated drip system, so water shouldn't be the problem. Another question is we have tons of bugs boring holes into our tangerines. We have bees, moths and other creepy bugs ruining our fruit. I don't like to use chemical pesticides on our fruit, but is there a homeade organic recipe I can use?
AnswerMelissa:
There could be several diseases that may cause the spots on the lemons. If you live in the US, you can contact the Cooperative Extension Service office in your county (every county has one)to get this type of information from. If you need help locating this office, let me know your state and county and I can check a database. This office is also a great source to go to to get an appropiate insecticide that is organic. There are some available, but it is best to know specifically the insect culprit since lots of insects may just be present and not actually guilty of the crime.
Let me know if I can get this information for you.
