QuestionI live in northeast Florida about 1/2 mile from the ocean. My house and lot is quite shady from many trees. I have holly bushes and one camilla bush in the front of my house as landscape. The bushes have a white powdery/webby looking substance on the underside of the leaves. When this substance covers the underside of the leaves they fall off. This has been going on for a few years. What is it? How do I treat it?
AnswerHi Gail, Sounds like cotton cushion scale. The bug is sucking the life out of the leaves causing them to die and fall off. You can use and insecticide reading the contents, as some have poison in them. Being a organic grower I read labels. I would use Atomic Grow to bring your plant back to health, so the bugs will stay off it. You dilute it in water and spray it on, very easy and you can use it on all your plants. Holly bushes especially have more bug problems than the camelia bush and you can use on both. kathy
