QuestionWe live in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico where bogenvillas are abundant. Four years ago we planted four tiny bogenvillas which grew into huge, beautiful, continally flowering plants. We water them often. About two months ago three of the four plants simply died, and the fourth is dying as well. What could have happened? Thank you for your assistance.
AnswerLin:
Check a couple of things first. Take a close look at the main stem near the soil line and look for any type of damage/injury where the bark may have been removed or loosened. If you see injury, this may have been some mechanical damage done by stringtrimmers/lawnmowers etc. Also check for any leaf spots or places under the plant where the soil may have been disturbed. Just a good idea to look the plant over well for anything that looks like injury. Try scratching a few places on the plant with your fingernail to look for green beneath. If present, the plant may recover.
