QuestionWe have had an aphid problem with our aspen trees. Do you think we should get 3 treatments (spraying for aphids) from a tree service company in the next month as they recommended? It's the end of September and we live in Colorado. We should get a hard freeze in the next few weeks and all of the leaves will fall off. Won't that kill the aphids and then we can just have the trees sprayed in the Spring? I feel like this company is trying to take advantage of me. Thank you.
AnswerNicole:
At this time of year, I think you would be wasting your time and money.
Here in my part of the world, spraying trees for aphids is usually not cost effective, especially if the trees are very tall. It could be very expensive. Here,an aphid population usually does not impact tree health enough to warrant spraying.
For the future, you might consider getting a second opinion from someone who does not have a service to sell. Check with folks like your county Extension office.
Hope this helps.
