QuestionI have a large fig tree outside that has a fungus growing on the trunk. When I tried to remove the fungus it was heavy, dense, and attached. The trunk underneath is soft. We live in S.Calif. and our weather has been dry. Watering is done at the base of the tree.I also have leaves that looked burned on the edges, but, not on the whole tree. What is causing this? Thank you!
AnswerHi Aimee.. checked this one out as I have not seen it here.. This is what I found for you.The fungus is probably some type of airborn supporting cyst. It has found a supporting host and spot on the fig tree bark. At first there was no nutrient disruption as the cyst was small but as it grows in size it begins to penetrate the tree trunk and affect nutriwnt flow and this may be why the leaves are beginning to show signs of incomplete nutrients. I would sugget cleaning the fungus off completly with a knife or something and applying AG to the wound. Also applying it to the base of the tree and up to about 1 foot high. Spraying until it foams. kathy
