QuestionI have 3 pine trees in my back yard that are dying. The needles are turning brown and falling off while other pine trees close by are very green. One,I believe is already beyond help. Any suggestions?
AnswerMike:
Check the trunks and root zone area for evidence of physical damage (e.g. bark damage or physical damage to the roots). Look for resin flow down the side of those affected trees. Some interior needle drop is normal on some pines, but you situation sounds more extensive. Id take a look at those things I mentioned to you above. You may try to see up high in the tree for any evidence of damaged streaks going down the side of the tree- this may indicate a possible lightning strike.
