QuestionMy large mulberry tree has a whitish mold growing on several branches. This year I noticed that some of the top branches were more bare than usual. Is there anything that could be done to stop the mold and could it be related to the bare branches?dx
AnswerNick:
If the tree is "mature", and the mold seems associated with the bare branches, I suspect it is probably secondary to the problem- i.e. it is growing on the dead wood and is not the cause of the bare branches. If you find the mold offensive/unsightly you might try removing those branches - assuming you can reach them- otherwise just enjoy the shade, make sure it is getting ample water during those hot/dry summers and especially, avoid any sort of wounds to the trunk and roots from lawnmowers and string trimmers.
