QuestionI have both trees the Bradford Tree had a web on end of branch which I was able to cut off and burn. Will all my trees gets this and what can I do The web was full of worms. They are not too close together. Thanks so much Elaine
AnswerElaine:
These are probably fall web worms. They are very common on sweetgum, pecans, and sometimes ash in my part of the world. Usually they are too high in the tree to get to, so we usually leave them alone, since their impact is usually minimal. Be sure to rake up and discard any fallen leaves before spring gets here- since some of these insects may spend the winter in these fallen leaves. You can always prune the webs out or another option is to spray (assuming you can reach them) with a biological insecticide called Bt. It is effective for many caterpillar type insects. The material is sold under the names of Thuricide or Dipel available at your garden center/nursery.
