QuestionI have a black locust that has started to get leaves that are yellowing and dropping at a rapid rate. I have found leaves with black spots under them and tiny tannish grey beetles that fly. I am trying to find out what they are and an organic (safe for kids and pets) way to control them.
AnswerAmanda:
Best to get these "critters" identified so as to (1) find out if they are harming your tree and (2) select the most appropriate insecticide. Collect some of the leaves with bugs in a plastic bag and carry them by your local garden center/nursery. Also consider carrying these by your local county Agricultural Extension office- a great source for identification. Ck the phone book under county offices.
