foxtail palm dying

Question
Hello.  I have a foxtail palm we planted 1 year ago.  It is currently about 15' tall.  About 4 weeks ago, the trunk started shrinking into itself about 2 1/2 feet off the ground. The fronds continue to emerge green and healthy, open, and spread.  After a few days, they limp over at the stem and die out. I have a lawn/shrub maintenance company who fertilizes and sprays for diseases every few months.  They don't know what the issue is. Thank you in advance for your expert advice.

Answer
Dawn:
This shrinking area may be an indication of a serious problem- possible a terminal condition.  Check for any evidence of physical damage to the basal area. Review any water imbalances as well. If you have an opportunity, you might consider contacting your local county Extension office and arrange for someone to see your plant and offer some suggestions.
