QuestionHi,
I have 2 meyer lemon trees about 4 years old, 4-5 feet high..always been in about a 40 gal pot outside. I take inside in the winter..they look great...but, they produce nickel size green lemons that turn yellow and drop off. they do have some lemons the size of golf balls that I think will make it.
why do some turn yellow and drop off?
thanks
AnswerHi Rick, It is normal to see a lot of small fruit drop right after flowering. This is the result of the tree retaining only the amount of fruit it can support. The usual rule is that when fruit reach the size of a quarter they are there to stay.
When this happens in May and June, this is called 揓une drop?and is not considered normal. It is believed to be caused by high temperature and low humidity. Check frequently for soil moisture. Fruit drop is aggravated by moisture deficiency. 揓une drop?usually starts in May and extends through June. It is hard to kill a tree in a pot. In my containers I keep the plants wet as they drain well being out of the
ground. So my guess is that they need more water. kathy
