mugo pine, branches turned black

Question
I have 2 dwarf mugo pines, both are exposed to the same elements and light.  One of them all the branches have turned black?  What is it?  And how do I treat it?

Answer
Janet:
The black material may be sooty mold, which is a fungus growing on honeydew (insect poop).  If you can wipe it off with a wet finger or wet paper towel, it is probably sooty mold.  If this is the case, then using an insecticide is the solution. Check in with your local nursery for suggestions for an appropriate materials to spray .
