Philodendron appears to bleed

Question
On occasion, I will find drops that almost look like a drop of blood located around my philodendron (approximately 15+ years old).  Where they show up (maybe 4 or 5 locations around the pot) look like it could have dripped off a leaf here and there.  It's hard to remove from my off-white carpet, but have gotten most up.  Then, maybe months later I'll notice another drop or two.

That's very strange, but maybe you know why it does that.  It's only happened in the last year or two.  It looks extremely healthy and has new growth on a regular basis.

It also has green roots that occasionally try to go "over" the planter heading for my carpet.  Year's ago (10 or more) when I moved I discovered it had rooted into the carpet!

Can you explain any of this?

Answer
Hi Bobi,  Checked around to see what this could be and found this blurb.  ... root rot is also a common disease in many foliage plants including Philodendron, Peperomia, ..... Brownish-red spore deposits may be visible around the structures. ..... Liquid may seep out of cracks and wounds and run down the bark. .... This disease is often noticed in poorly designed drip irrigation systems

This is where I found it, too much to read, but the answer should be there for you, unless the above is enough.  ag.arizona.edu/pubs/diseases/az1124  So it would have to do with how it is planted in the pot causing this problem.  Hope this helps.  kathy
