QuestionI have had my palm since the early summer of 2008. He originally was outside in full sun until mid fall (I live in Columbus, Ohio). I brought him inside over the course of fall, winter and spring he grew and looked beautiful! It came to be decent weather w/o dropping below 40 at night so I brought him outside. I unfortunately did not know they could become sunburned b/c it was a "palm tree". On his tips he became very brown and dried out where he was getting the sun full. After one week I brought the palm inside. After bringing him in I trimmed some branches that were dead. The palm has been in for almost 2 months now and looks good but not great, still I am fighting a few areas that were originally hit but he does have some new branches growing up and opening.
I just LOVE this plant so much it was my first and has grown over 5 feet tall in a pot and probably almost 5 feet wide. Will he survive? Are there any tips to improve the health or will it take a few months to recover?
Please if there is anything I can do let me know!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this e-mail.
If you need more details on the plant let me know, again Thank you sooooo much!
Stephanie
AnswerHi Stephanie, Sounds like you are taking good care of your palm till it hit the sun. Just like a person never sunbathing then going out in the sun all day. They recover and so will you palm, it just takes time. New branches coming out means he is happy again. Next time you put him out put him in the shade or no more than morning sun. When you get rain a bath in good rain water will do more than an chemical that you could put on it. Also when you fertilize use a slow release, so you do not burn your palm. kathy
