QuestionI have a pear tree I planted 1 year ago. It was doing just fine in early spring it even had 4 groups of blossoms on it. Now for the past 2 weeks its leaves have been wilting and today I noticed some are turning black. I watered it thinking it was too dry but that hasn't helped. Can you perhaps give me an idea what the problem is and what I can do.
thank you
Patty
AnswerSounds like too much water and as a result you may have a fungus problem. I would aereate the soil underneath the tree. You can do this by simply pushing a metal rod down through the soil about a foot deep. If the rod has muck on it as a result you will know the soil is too wet. I would also follow up with a good quality tree and shrub fertilizer like 10-10-10.
Be carefull not to overfertilize.
