QuestionThe bush is 50 years old. I cut out all invasive plants within the bush last summer. Now the leaves on some branches have curled and the branches look dead. There are many 'suckers?' growing on the branches , should I remove them?
AnswerUsually the orange trees leaves will curl when the trees are havily fertilized. I am not sure why the branches are dying. The suckers represent new growth emerging from various parts of the tree. The phloem and Xylem nutrint transport systems of the Citrus trees are critical and are directly related to the health of the tree. If you have pathogen problems with in the stems the nutrients will find alternate routs to flourish. I would not cut any suckers off right now. This is a good sign that the tree is coming back from the shock.
There is an awsome citrus spray available at Crowley's Nursery. www.crowleynursery.net. It is mothers milk for Citrus.
Good Luck
