Orange tree in distress.

Question

tree
Hi Kathy,
I am having a hard time locating the right expert for this question.  I hope I am not wasting your time.  I will cut and paste my previous mailings along with attaching a picture.  Thank you in advance for your time and help  :)

I have 3 dwarf orange trees approx 7 years old.  This last year the bark on the trunk of one of them began peeling off in a scroll like fashion.  I can't remember but there might have been some oozing in conjunction with the peeling.  That tree bore very little fruit this year and the section of tree the peeling corresponded to saw the leaves turn yellow green throughout.  Now another tree has contracted the bark symptoms.  Im in Northern Ca.

Answer
Hi Chad,  Looks like you are drowning your plant.  Citrus needs good drainage, remove what looks like mulch around the tree and the wood you have around it so the tree can drain.  Citrus like water but not to sit in it.  If you do this you maybe able to save it.  The only thing under citrus is the dirt or sand it is growing in.  No mulch, plants, stones, anything you can think of.  Water maybe 3 1/2 inches per week if in good draining soil.  I saved a citrus by shutting off the sprinklers near it and just hand watering.  But you must take down all that is holding water in its cozy box.  kathy
