Question
Peach tree limb/ leave
I have recently planted a peach tree, about a year old. I live in Virginia so we have that dark redish colored clay soil. This spring the peach tree bloomed and the leaves looked beautiful. They were a dark green and about 3 weeks ago some turned yellow/ light brown in color and some of the ends of the tree limbs were blackish looking. No blisters or anything along that line they just turned black. Now a lot of the leaves ae turning yellow. I sprayed the tree with Ortho Volox Oil thinking the issue might be spider mites but the treatment has no effect. What should I do. We've never had this type of problem with our apple - pear trees and they are 65+ years old.
AnswerSan Jose scale
Stone and pome fruit Abnormal yellowing of leaves, unseasonal leaf drop, gumming and cracking of the bark, followed by dieback of the infected branches. Tops of trees usually the first injured. Bright red discolouration often shows up on young wood, especially on peaches.
There are many sites that will tell you how to treat it depending which state you live in. So type in San Jose scale and your state.. kathy
