QuestionI planted two dwarf pear trees in the ground about 2 months ago, mostly sunny, very alkaline soil. The new growth on both trees looks diseased - a thin black edge around the leaves, and the leaves are slightly withered. Some look dried up. They have had lots of water, but temperatures here in Texas have gone from the 80's to the 30's and back again several times in the last two months. I've sprayed with insecticidal soap, but too early to tell if it has made a difference. And it has been very windy lately. Thanks for any suggestions.
AnswerHi Debbie, Pits fruits such as peaches, pears, nectarines do not like allot of water. Black edges around the leaves means you are drowning it. Cut back to 1 good watering a week. Make sure it is in a high and dry area where water does not sit. kathy
