QuestionI have 5 maples in a row in my side yard. The middle tree has budded two weeks later than the other 4 and the bark looks darker and feels "rough".
Not sure what kind of maples these are, but they are less than 10 yrs old and they are all the same type. What could be the problem? (I just noticed today that it had finally budded...03 April 09)
AnswerThe genetics of tree of the same species can be different and this would cause a tree to leaf out a little latter than one of the same species. Since the tree has leafed out I would not be concerned about this. It is just part of the wonderful world of genetics and trees. It may also be a different variety of maple form the others. I would not worry about this.
