QuestionMy holly is yellowing and the leaves have black spots. The berries are red. I know the leaves will have some black spots and will shed but this appears to be more than the usual leaf drop. I plan to rake up disease leaves, thin, and fertilize with Hollytone if that is the best. Please advise. Thank you
AnswerYour plan is good--I would also spray the foliage with a fungicide.
This sanitary step should be followed by several applications of a broad spectrum fungicide such as maneb, ferbam or a copper fungicide, such as Bordeaux mixture. As an added plus, these fungicides are also effective for other leaf spots and die-back which occur on hollies.
