AnswerHi Catherine The cause could be Shot Hole Disease which is a fungal disease and causes purplish to reddish leaf spots which then drop out leaving circular holes in the leaves and, again mild wet summer weather will help to promote this disease. Unfortunately there is at the present time nothing on the market to control this problem but it would be well worthwhile giving your Bay Tree a good fertilizer. You could try 100 per cent pure Neem Oil by Dyna Grow and as it is a fungicide and a miticide, it is excellent in keeping bug problems down and is organic to boot.
