QuestionHi, we've got half a dozen plums that are usually quite vigorous - we've been getting a good crop of fruit every year for about 10 years. This year however they have all been quite late with new growth, which is weak and sporadic (many branches not shooting at all). There's been no flowers and hence no chance of fruit this year at all.
We sprayed over winter with bordeaux mixtures as usual, and other stone fruit in our orchard (nectarines & peaches) are doing extremely well. Do you have any suggestions on what could be causing the problem? Thanks :)
AnswerHI Andrew . contrary to most peoples thoughts trees also get old and die and do have life spans. The purple leaf plum has a average life span of 10-15 years so I would say that is more then likely the problem. As I have no idea where you live you may have a disease that we do not have in our area. The first thing that came to my mind was the age.
