QuestionQUESTION: Good morning, i live in Miami, Fl. I haev just recently planted a few citrus tress in my garden..lemons, key limes, grapefruits....I have a very sandy soil and therefore mixed it with about an equal part of composted cow manure. i planted the treen in a sunny area, and they seem to be getting curly leaves??? they curl closed like a book...i do not think it is an animal causing this.
What do you think?
Also, do the trees need full sunlight, or can thay have shade about 30% of the day?
Thanks in advance for your help.
ANSWER: Hi Riccardo , the leaf curling is from the leaf minor which will go to sleep as the weather cools off and then the new leaves will look great again. I do not do anything for the leaf minor and I have nice fruit. You would have to spray every 7 days every new leaf that comes out to stop it. Some cut off the leaves but than you might loose your next set of citrus.

QUESTION: Thanls for your very prompt reply...and for the good news. About the sunlight, what do you think? my key lime is not flowering, and i think its because it is not in full sunlight all day.
Ciao and thanks again.
AnswerHi Riccardo ... 30 per cent is fine. Make sure no mulch or plants or stones, etc., under your trees, at least 3 inches of water per week. Key limes are everbearing so just have patience. Being newly planted they may want to stretch their roots first. Plus you have not mentioned the size you planted some may take longer if they are very young. Also make sure you didn't plant your trees deeper than they were in the pot so you can still see the old soil.
