Questiondear sir/madam
I love farming, i planting the wheat in my garden now ,it think that is over irrigated becouse,it appear a pickish colour.Have a nice day.
AnswerDear Nobantu, I have not grown much wheat or other grain crops, but it does seem that your wheat is getting too much water. This is one crop that does well in dry areas. Normally in your area of South Africa you are used to dry winters which should be perfect for growing wheat. If your crop is recently planted, then some of the pinkish color should go away as the wheat grows and becomes drier. It is possible that your wheat has a disease and the yield may not be as much grain as you had hoped from this crop. For success with your wheat, here are some suggestions. Start with the best seed that you can get, because the newer varieties will not become sick so easily, plus after you plant it the first time, you can save some of the grain you grow to seed next time. The wheat needs fertile ground, so be sure to fertilize the ground. If this crop of wheat is not good, then do not till under the stalks at the end of the season, instead burn them. Next planting, try a different seed and plant the wheat in a different area. In the place where you now have wheat, plant something else there for the next year, then you may plant wheat in that place again. I live in the United States in Texas, and although I am on the other side of the world from you, I would like to help you with your gardening questions as much as you need. I wish you much success and joy in your garden. Please write back if I may be of more help to you. Very good luck, Melissa
