QuestionQUESTION: I have three plants that are dropping leaves. Two of the them are rubber tree plants and the other is a sheflera. I have over 20 houseplants and don't know what is happening to these. The first rubber tree lost all it's leaves and died. The second is starting along with the sheflera. I have checked for bugs and can't see any in the soil or the underside of any leaves. I am at a loss as it is only affecting these 3 plants. Please let me know what you think.
ANSWER: Sounds like you may be overwatering. This can cause a shortage of oxygen in the soil simulating a root rot or wilt disease. Check your watering habit and see if you think you are giving them too much water. Let me know if this does not seem to be the case. Thanks.

QUESTION: I always check the soil before watering my plants. I don't let it get crumbly dry before watering. Should I?
AnswerSounds like you have the watering regime OK to me. It is possible the plants may need to be repotted to a larger pot. Without being able to see the root system I can not comment as to whether there may be a root rot or not. I have observed house plants with drooping leaves for no reason. If you would like to try to treat for root rot, go buy some Daconil fungicide and mix 2 oz of the product in a gallon of water. Then drench the pots with at least a cup or enough to saturate the soil to simulate one watering. If there is a root rot, this product should help eleviate the problem. Good Luck.
