I have a crabapple tree first year and its got these cotton like balls growing on it, what is it and please what can I do about it thanks Pamela

Hi. Without a picture it can be tough to diagnose but here is one possibility  Woolly Apple Aphids' These will produce a white substance.Check to see if the leaves are curled or anything is on the bottom of the leaves.Also you will see them on the branches.
