QuestionI have a bradford pear tree for 10 years. It spreads out a little, but mainly grows up. What can I do to make it form a pear shape. We have never trim or done nothing to it.
THANK YOU
AnswerThe tree should have normally grown into the typical bradford pear shape. If you are dissatisfied with the way it looks you can change it but very slowly over several years. You can prune the tree in February a little, right in the middle to stimulate new limb growth from the side. This should eventually fill in and give the tree some breadth. Be careful---- bradfords are subject to having splitting trunks and if you make the tree too width heavy, you may cause more problems than leaving the tree alone. I wish you good luck.
