dwarf japanese maple leaves

Question
I purchased a dwarf Japanese maple around 7 weeks ago, when I purchased it the leaves were crimson colored, but now the leaves are green and the very tips of the leaves look dry. I try to water it often and fertilize, what can be the problem?

Answer
Anthony:

Trees should be planted correctly and watered in well at planting time to get all of the air pockets out of the hole, then watered carefully thereafter.  Too much water or not enough can cause the leaves to become brown, especially along the edges.  No fertilization at planting time- this may burn the leaves as well.  Check the soil to be sure it isn't staying too wet.
