QuestionI have black pine shaped cones hanging off the branches of my evergreen trees. They are very sappy to the touch. They are about 1 l/2 in. long..What are these and should I remove them or have them sprayed? Thank You, Bev
AnswerHi
Sorry for the delay--computer crash on my end. It sounds like you are describing the reproductive cones in an immature state. Evergreens reproduce by making cones and in the early stages would have a thick covering of pine like sap. They should grow to full size, dry up and fall off in the fall. The plants are either male or female and each will produce a reproductive cone. This sounds normal and I do not think there is any action required on your part. Good Luck.
