QuestionI have peaches that are big and beautiful that are just ripening and look fine; but, when you cut into them they more often than not have a brown inside around the seed that looks like it is rotting from the inside starting at the seed. The variety is an Elberta variety and the location is central NC. I would like to know 1. What is this disease? 2. What causes it and what can be done to prevent it.
AnswerPeaches have a reddish brown color around the pit which is normal when ripe. Only if you smell a funny smell or it is very soft and unusual tasting, would I worry about this. I think you may be describing a normal response in peaches. If this seems totally not correct could you please send pictures so I can verify the problem. Thanks.
