tiny black bugs eating limbs of weeping willow

Question
I have two weeping willows that are infested with tiny black bugs that are eating the limbs of the trees. There are no bugs on the leaves only the limbs and branches. I was wondering what they are and if there is any treatment for them?

Answer
I am not familiar with what you describe unless they are scale insects.  In any case, I would treat the plant with Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Insecticide.  This product is mixed with water and poured on the soil around the base of the plant.  It is taken up systemically and will kill the bugs within a week or so.  It also provides protection from reinfestation for up to a year.  I hope this helps fix the problem.  Thanks.
