QuestionI have 4 Drummond Red Maples and live in southeast Texas. The trees are a little over a year old and about 10 feet tall. One of my trees looks sick with leaves that are cupped down and have black edges that run about 1/2" from the edge completely around the leaf. When new leaves come out they are fine for about a week then they turn black as mentioned above, not allot of new leaves. The trees limbs are dyeing at the tips. I have treated the sick tree with Consan Triple Action 20 and Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub Insect Control with no results. The other 3 trees look great and are watered the same and ground condition are the same. Please help.
AnswerMaples do this a lot. I would not worry too much about this situation. Maples can lose many leaves and be fine in the short term. Mine do the same twig dieback every year. Prune the dead twigs about January or Feb. of next year. Then see if the new growth appears to be healthier longer during the growing season. Let me know if the need further assistance. Thanks.
