Worms on petunias

Question
This is 2nd year I have worms on my petunias.  They are planted in the same pot & soil, is the soil infested & is that why worms keep coming back?  If so, how do I get rid of them now & should all the soil be discarded?
Thanks,  Anthony

Answer
It depends on whether the worms are larvae of a butterfly or some other creature that looks like a worm.  Butterflies come to petunias to lay eggs and thus the worms.  Others can survive in soil but I dont think this is where they are coming from.  I would try some Thuricide insecticide, which is good for worm pests.  This is a biological control type insecticide and is perfectly safe to you, pets and everything, except the worms.  The product is sprayed on the plants and when the worms consume some of the treated plant material, they get a big stomach ache and quit feeding.  I hope this fixes the problem.  Thanks.
