QuestionWe planted some tomatoes and the leaves are starting to curl upward and are rubbery feeling. The lower leaves started curling first and now all of the leaves are curling. The plant is also growing very slowly. Last year they did really well. We added some sand and manure to the soil this year and they are not doing good. Do you know what this could be?
AnswerIf the manure was fresh it may have too much nitrogen in it. This would cause the curling leaves. There would also be little fruit set. They high temperatures at night (depending on where you are are) could also cause lack of pollination. Start some more seed or buy some more transplants and set them out in a different place without the manure and see if they do better. Good Luck.
