money tree, yellowing leaves

Question
We have a money tree that has grown to 9-10 feet tall......(it is in our two story foyer right now) Recently, we noticed yellowing leaves with brown spots....we water regularly and don't water right at the root...Last fall, we had a problem with flies and scooped the soil on top of roots and replaced with  new , fresh soil without disturbing the roots ( the bug expert locally told us to throw away the plant ) but this method controlled the situation very well. The plant has since thrived until now .....Please advise    ....Thank YOu Anita

Answer
Your original problem may have been fungus gnats.  They live in the soil and look like little black flies.  The problem now is the yellowing leaves with brown spots.  Sounds like a fungal disease to me.  You can treat with several different products.  Daconil is a common fungicide available at garden centers and should do a good job with safety to you and the environment.  Treat according to label directions for ornamentals and then re-treat in 10-14 days and see if the plant condition improves.  If possible, you can remove the lower leaves with the spots and this will help mimimize the fungal spores flying around.  I wish you luck.  Thanks.
