QuestionWhat is this yellow leaf disease that a writer said his hollies had? I have a Japanese Holly (upright growing) and it has a lot of new growth right now but I also noticed this past week that some of the leaves are turning yellow. They have brown spots on them and almost a silver spotting. Not sure if it is from insects, but I don't see any, lack of water, or something else. I was going to apply some Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub Insect Control, but it is expensive and I already have bought 6 bottles of that stuff so far for 5 huge hemlock trees in my backyard that I am doing prevention medicine on so they don't get hit with adelgids. Anyway, do you think it is lack of water or bugs?
AnswerTo check for insects on hollies, look on the undersides of the yellow leaves. If you see kind of a white substance right under the yellow areas, it will be scale insects. Then you would need to treat with the bayer product. Let me know if this is not the case. Thanks.
