QuestionHi David,
I live in San Antonio Texas and was so impressed by these trees that I bought 2. Once of which sprout lemons almost immediately. The other only has a few. The one that sprouted quickly has some of the tiny Lemons turning yellow, then a dried black after which they fall from the tree. I don't understand it, I water them at least 3 times a week, it's mid spring here and the temperature fluctuates between 70 and 90. I have used fruit tree spikes and ironite on my trees.
AnswerGive the tree some time, especially if you planted them in the soil. They are probably suffering from transplant shock and cannot support fruit and try to establish a root system at the same time. They should bloom and set fruit all summer long. I am not sure about lemons, but they may need bees to pollinate. The tree will set a small fruit but if it wasnt pollinated, it would do as you describe. I think I would give the tree a little time. I have one in Mississippi that I have to keep in a greenhouse in the winter that has made about 12-15 lemons in its first year. I would also check for scale insects. They will be little oval shaped bumps on the branches that do not move and will probably be brown in color. They can be scraped off with your fingernail and have liquid inside when squashed. These bugs can cause flower and fruit abortion. Let me know if you find these and I can make a recommendation on how to treat them. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
