QuestionHi David:
I'm quite embarrassed - I love plants and flowers - but really don't know anything about them. This morning for Mother's Day, my husband got me an Oleander Braid - its about 3 ft. tall. We live in New York, just outside of Queens - and have a really small garden. Can I plant this Oleander Braid outside? or should I keep it in its pot and leave it outside during the Spring and Summer months and bring it in in the cold months? Should I give it anything other than just water and maybe some Miracle Grow?
I appreciate your help - Thanks - Michelle
AnswerAlthough Oleanders can be grown in the ground in the North, it is more likely that you will have better success growing them in the pot. Go to Oleander.org and you will find a lot of helpful tips on growing them in pots. They will live for years in a pot. Planting outside will increase the risk of freeze injury and death. I hope you have a happy Mother's Day and enjoy your Oleander for years. Good Luck.
