QuestionDavid: Thanks in advance for your time. I ama Houston, TX resident have two King Palms in a back garden near a pool. The bark at the bottom of both trees appear damaged and are coming loose, almost as if the tree is shedding itself of this bark. I can literally pull pieces off. These are established trees and I have not had this problem before now, although these are the first King Palms I have had. Is this a natural occurrence to allow for growth at the base of the tree, or are the trees suffering from some cause unknown to me?
Pete
AnswerI am not familiar with King Palms, but as long as they are not wilting, I would say it sounds normal. Many plants have exfoliating bark which is normal. If the palms are wilting, then I would say you have a big problem on your hands. Keep a watch and let me know your observations. Thanks.
